The UNCITRAL Arbitration Rules

The idea behind the establishment of UNCITRAL was to develop common rules for international trade. The Commission has its headquarters in Vienna. Working group sessions are held alternately at the premises of the United Nations in Vienna and New York. The participants which have an impact on the creation of a new international trade law are representatives of 60 member countries plus observers .

For the purpose of regulating disputes UNCITRAL has developed the Arbitration Rules and the Model Arbitration Law.

Piotr Nowaczyk was a Polish delegate in the UNCITRAL Working Group on Arbitration and Conciliation. He has spent 4 years participating in the preparation and adoption of the current UNCITRAL Arbitration Rules. He is the author of its first Polish translation and co-author of the Commentary published in a series of C.H. Beck’s comments.
